Our professional light meters (lux meters) provide accurate measurement of illuminance for assessing lighting conditions in workplaces, commercial buildings, laboratories and industrial environments. Portable digital instruments make it easy to measure and compare light levels in lux or foot-candles.
Light Meters
About This Category
Light meters are professional measuring instruments used to determine the level of illumination reaching a surface. They provide an objective way to assess lighting conditions and are commonly used by electricians, lighting professionals, facility managers, engineers and health and safety professionals in commercial and industrial environments.
Illuminance is typically measured in lux (lx), with some instruments also providing readings in foot-candles (fc). A digital light meter uses a photosensor to detect incident light and converts the measurement into an easy-to-read numerical value. For this reason, these instruments are also commonly referred to as lux meters or illuminance meters.
Light level measurements can be useful when evaluating offices, schools, warehouses, factories, laboratories, retail premises and other working environments. Regular measurements allow users to compare lighting across different areas, check the performance of existing lighting installations and identify locations where illumination may be insufficient or excessive for the intended activity.
When selecting a light meter, consider factors such as measurement range, accuracy, resolution and the lighting conditions in which the instrument will be used. Depending on the model, additional functions may include MIN/MAX recording, data hold, automatic ranging and selectable lux or foot-candle units. A separate sensor can also provide greater flexibility when positioning the instrument during measurements.
